Three errors that become important as math gets more abstract

Adding unlike denominators directly

3/4 + 2/3 is not 5/7. First make the parts the same size.

Combining unlike algebraic terms

7x and -2 are not like terms, so 7x - 2 cannot be reduced to 5x.

Mixing up perimeter and area

Perimeter uses linear units such as cm; area uses square units such as cm².
